Measuring 8′ by 2’6″, Ipswich South Bank started as a junior layout, representing a modern railway and drawing inspiration from around the Ipswich area.
The layout (in N gauge scale) depicts a fictitious area of Ipswich Docks, rail served, together with an elevated shuttle passenger service.
Taylor’s Brewery (the home of Irma Fine Ales) sits to the east end of the sidings and still receives its grain delivery by rail together with fuel by rail tanker.
South Bank is also home to a Network Rail Civil Engineer’s Depot with a small locomotive refueling and washing area behind it.
The layout was built originally by our junior members but has been added to over a number of years by older members.
Ipswich South Bank is currently under redevelopment & not available for exhibition.
